Why I Started
Students often recognize that something went wrong, but do not always understand where it happened, why it happened, or how to improve it.
During years of percussion study and teaching, Jacky observed that musicians frequently repeat difficult passages without receiving meaningful feedback between lessons.
Many existing practice tools focus on scores, percentages, or simple right-and-wrong judgments. This project begins with a different question: can technology respond more like a thoughtful practice coach?
The goal is not to replace teachers. It is to help musicians practice more independently, identify specific problems, and arrive at their next lesson with greater awareness.
The Product
Performance Analysis
This sixteenth note arrived slightly early. Repeat the beat slowly three times, then reconnect it to the surrounding measure.
The assistant analyzes a recorded percussion performance and translates technical data into clear, musician-friendly guidance.
Instead of presenting only a numerical score, it identifies the musical location that needs work, explains the issue, and recommends a focused next step.
Repeated takes can be compared so the system recognizes improvement, recurring weak points, and material that may be ready to move on.
